Uh oh! Mac users who occasionally dip their toes into the sea of Microsoft products are at risk of becoming the victims of targeted security attacks, thanks to a security hole in Microsoft Office for Mac.

Dennis Fisher of the Kaspersky Lab Security News Service reports that?researchers recently discovered a new security attack which relies on "two separate pieces of malware, a malicious Word document and some techniques for maintaining persistence on compromised machines." These attacks are specifically?targeting Mac users, he explains.

Despite the attack method being rather new, it actually relies on a three-year-old vulnerability in the way Microsoft Office for Mac deals with certain types of Microsoft Word Files. According to Jaime Blasco of AlienVault Labs, an attacker needs to send a "specially crafted Word file" to a user and have some patience. Once that individual opens the malicious file, the attacker could take complete control of his or her system:

An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.

As usual, extreme vigilance is the best way to avoid becoming a victim to?a security attack such as this one. Be careful when opening files you've received. Are they from individuals you trust? Are they files you've been expecting? Use common sense and don't immediately peek at every random file.

Updated at 8:15 pm ET: ?Yunsun Wee, director of Microsoft Trustworthy Computing, said the company?released a security update in 2009 "to address an issue affecting Microsoft Office for Mac, and we encourage customers to apply this update to ensure that they are fully protected."

Whenever you are starting a business or managing one, the most important element to remember is the old adage ?time is money? and this is why many people are interested in sales training that includes excellent instruction on all aspects of this fundamental principle of business. Time is money and the Pareto principle

While the ?time is money? adage is important to business, it comes hand in hand with the other 20/80 rule, otherwise known as the Pareto principle. Any good sales trainingcourse will tell you that the real profits in business (the 80%) come with effort that is invested cleverly and efficiently (the 20%). It?s no good ?being busy? in a vague and inefficient way (which usually involves hours wasted on Facebook and staring at emails), what you need to do if you want to really succeed in business is to invest your time extremely well.

People do this in different ways and knowing which way works the best for you is the most important part of training for business. Before you begin any sort of a business venture, the most critical talent to pick up is good time management skills. How you do this and how effective your method is will determine a lot how successful you are at business, so do not underestimate this most important facet to the whole entrepreneurial world.

Knocking off tasks one by one

People like different strategies and when it comes to sales training, a good program will expose you to a variety of these. One common approach is to begin with the hardest task and just slog your way through it until it is finished. The opposite approach is also common ? begin by doing a bunch of small easy tasks and then focus on the big ones.

Let?s look at this in more detail though and discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of both approaches.

Beginning with the hard tasks

The biggest advantage to beginning with the hard tasks is that they get done first and then the smaller, easier ones become a breeze. There?s a huge rush of motivation when you complete a difficult task, which can propel you to finish smaller ones.

The disadvantage to this approach is that it can end up taking longer than you expected and then you won?t have time for the smaller tasks.

A good way to compromise is to simply set aside a certain amount of time (1-2 hours) for finishing part of a hard task, and then move onto another couple of hours knocking off easy tasks.

Beginning with the easy tasks

If you take a sales training?course, you will learn that just the opposite can be true if you begin with the easy tasks. You may end up going through a lot of easy tasks, but pile up the hard ones which never get done.

Combining the above info from the compromise with a further element is a good solution. So you work on at least one or two hard tasks per day in 1-2 hour brackets and then work on the small tasks for the rest of your time and knock them individually.

Keeping a clean inbox

This is probably the most important aspect of time management, keeping a clean inbox.

First of all, what is an inbox? It?s not just your email, it can also be a tray on your desk (useful for memos that you print or mail that comes in). Generally, the idea is to leave nothing in there at the end of the day unless it?s an ongoing hard project that cannot be done in one day. If it?s a small task, then make sure it gets done when you are working on small tasks and then archive it. If it?s a long task, mark it as such in your emails and let it there until it gets done, at which point you archiveit right away.

If someone asks you a question, ignore it unless it?s an emergency. At some point in your day, set aside a time when you answer questions for 15-20 minutes (noon and the end of the day are good times for this). Answer all the questions you have been asked and get them out of your inbox.

If you stick to this system, pretty soon you will have a really clean inbox that?s actually being used in the most efficient way possible.

Sales training skills and automated sales solutions

Another thing to keep in mind when you are trying to gain some sales training?skills is that for everything that you can automate, you are saving time. If something can be done by a computer, learn how to set it up and do it. If you don?t know how to do this, consider hiring an extra helping hand (i.e. someone who you can delegate these tasks to to save you time). Virtual assistants, freelance writers, system administrators and other contractors can be a godsend for many businesses as they allow them to focus on what they like doing best (creating, selling and growing their business) while the technical details are taken care of by people who are already skilled in that aspect of the venture.

Your clients will be able to view information about your products and services online and at the same time they will have the ability to order anything they would like.

A good sales training program will explain all of these aspects of business in a clear and concise way that will give you success if you implement it right.

US trade upgrade may worsen relations with Russia

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Obama administration wants Congress to remove Soviet-era trade restrictions that have been a sore point in U.S.-Russia relations for decades. But the conditions lawmakers are demanding to make the change may only worsen America's increasingly shaky relations with Moscow.

Republicans and Democrats are trying to tie the easing of the so-called Jackson-Vanik restrictions to a measure imposing sanctions against Russian officials linked to human rights abuses. That would infuriate Russia and would be the latest hitch in what administration officials consider a major foreign policy success: improved relations with Russia after a sharp downturn during the Bush administration. They call it the "reset."

Obama administration officials are trying to keep the rights and trade measures apart. They are concerned about retaliation and do not want to aggravate relations further. Tensions have been growing over issues like missile defense and the international response to uprisings in Libya and Syria. But the U.S. still hopes for a degree of cooperation with Russia on other matters, such as stopping Iran's nuclear program.

"We want to deal with trade issues in one sphere and democracy issues and human rights in another sphere," said Michael McFaul, the U.S. ambassador to Russia.

The administration first wants to deal with trade. It has powerful allies in the U.S. business community supporting the repeal of Jackson-Vanik, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which calls the repeal its top trade priority this year. Russia soon will get more opportunities for international trade when it joins the World Trade Organization. If the U.S. doesn't repeal Jackson-Vanik, American companies could be at a competitive disadvantage.

But it's a delicate matter in an election year. Republicans are reluctant to offer Obama any perceived victory by unconditionally repealing the restrictions. And President Barack Obama doesn't want to appear too critical of the rights measure, which has support from both parties. His likely Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, has attacked Obama for signing a major nuclear arms treaty with Russia.

Obama's handling of relations with Russia became a bigger political issue Monday after he told outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he would have more flexibility to deal with the contentious issue of missile defense after the November election. Obama apparently did not realize he was being recorded.

Republicans seized on the remarks, demanding an explanation. And on Tuesday, Obama denied having a hidden agenda. "I want to reduce our nuclear stockpiles. And one of the barriers to doing that is building trust and cooperation around missile defense issues," he said.

Jackson-Vanik has long been a thorn in US-Russian relations. It was introduced in 1974 to pressure the Soviet Union to allow Jews to emigrate. Named after its congressional sponsors, Jackson-Vanik denies normal trading relations with communist countries that restrict emigration or punish those trying to leave the country.

Russia calls it anachronistic, even though the legislation has had little practical effect since 1994, when the United States began waiving its application. Still, previous calls to repeal it have found little traction among lawmakers critical of Russia's human rights record.

Those rights concerns prompted two Democrats, Rep. James McGovern of Massachusetts and Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland, to propose the Magnitsky bill, which would make it difficult for Russians suspected of abuses from doing business, including using credit cards, outside their country. It also calls for publicly identifying Russians tied to abuses, a significant escalation that the administration worries could rile relations. The measure also is backed by prominent Republicans, including Sen. John McCain.

The bill was named for lawyer Sergey Magnitsky, who died in a Russian jail in 2009, when the pancreatitis he developed was left untreated. Proponents of the bill say the death and allegations of torture highlight corruption in Russia's judicial system.

Prospects were uncertain for getting the measure passed as a stand-alone bill. But with the administration and business groups pushing hard to get Jackson-Vanik repealed, senators saw an opportunity to boost its prospects by tying together the two measures, underscoring the link between trade with Russia and human rights.

The administration tried to defuse the issue last year by issuing travel bans on 60 unnamed Russian officials believed to be responsible for Magnitsky's imprisonment, torture and death. Russia later responded by saying it had banned unnamed U.S. officials it claims were involved in abuses related to U.S. counterterror policies.

If Congress insists on linking the two bills, the administration wants to drop the provision calling for the naming of rights abusers. They argue that such disclosure would be inconsistent with State Department practice and counterproductive, because it would remove the uncertainty that human rights violators already face about whether they are on a U.S. blacklist.

Human rights advocates, though, fear the administration may go too far to avoid upsetting Moscow.

"If the Russian leadership is going to throw U.S.-Russian relations over the side because we are going after Russian officials who engage in gross human rights abuses, then the reset isn't very solid to begin with," says David Kramer, president of the human rights advocacy group Freedom House.

Obama defends energy policy amid high gas prices

President Barack Obama launched a bold defense of his energy policy Wednesday, fending off an election year onslaught by Republican foes who blame him for high gas prices.

"As long as I'm president, we will not walk away from the promise of clean energy," Obama said during a visit to a solar energy plant in Boulder City, Nevada.

Obama said he had been unable to get an energy and climate change bill through Congress, as he had promised during his campaign, because "some" politicians were bent on preventing public investment in solar energy.

"If these guys were around when Columbus set sail, they'd be charter members of the Flat Earth Society," Obama joked, stressing that all US energy resources should be tapped at a time when gas prices hover on average above $3.85 per gallon (3.79 liters).

His trip was part of a two-day tour of four states as his reelection campaign heats up ahead of November's general elections.

Obama was due to next head to oil and gas production fields on federal lands in New Mexico, in order to highlight his administration's "commitment to expanding domestic oil and gas production."

But in a jab at Republicans, Obama said "an energy strategy that focuses only on drilling and not on an energy strategy that will free ourselves from our dependence on foreign oil, that's a losing strategy."

He urged Congress to repeal subsidies to oil companies and redirect them instead toward green energy efforts.

Nevada and New Mexico are both considered key battlegrounds ahead of the November 6 ballots, when Obama hopes to score a second four-year mandate ahead of the world's superpower.

Although unemployment has dropped in recent months, allowing the Democratic president to make gains in polls, rising oil prices triggered by tensions in the Middle East have cast a shadow over the US economic recovery.

Candidates for the Republican presidential nomination have sharpened their criticism of Obama.

Tuesday, frontrunner Mitt Romney reprised his attacks on Obama's economic policies and cast the general election as a choice between "economic freedom" and "job-killing regulation."

On Thursday, the president will be in Oklahoma, a state that consistently votes in the Republican column but is the proposed site of a portion of the giant Keystone XL oil pipeline.

Republicans have attacked Obama for rejecting a northern portion of the $7 billion dollar pipeline, which was supposed to link Canada to the Gulf Coast of Texas.

Obama has delayed a decision on the pipeline until 2013, allowing Republicans to claim that Democrats have turned down a project supporters insist would quickly create 20,000 US jobs and help bring down fuel prices in the sour economy.

In Oklahoma, Obama is expected to announce a new executive order to identify regionally and nationally significant infrastructure projects, including oil pipelines.

Before returning to Washington, Obama will make a stop in Ohio, a bellwether state in the White House race, to discuss energy research and development.

[Abstract]

Objective To study the frequency of MA on 8p , to investigate the function of MA during the progress of pathogenesis in colorectal cancer. Methods By PCR, polyacrylamide gel-electrophoresis and silver staining, MA was detected at 4 microsatellite loci on chromsome 8p in tumor tissues,adjacent tissues and normal colorectum tissues excised from 34 cases with colorectal cancer . Results (T) 14 cases demonstrated MA at one or more loci ,the total frequency was 41.18%. The frequency of MA on D8S135. D8S255, D8S51K D8S137was 29.41%x 20.59%> 17.65%^ 11.76%., respectively. @ MA positive at 2 and more loci was 10, the frequency among the total positive cases was71.42% . None patient?s adjacent tissues was found MA, Conclusions (1) The most common MA occurrence at the 4 loci might imply the existence of the potential genes related to the carcinogenesis of colorectal cancer, and provide a effective index for early diagnosis ofcolonrectal cancer. (2)The MA was not found in the 34 selected patient?s adjacent tissues.

Merlyn has been dancing on stage for the past fifteen years but truly started dancing when she was eight years old at home and gatherings. Influenced by the great Bollywood icon, Helen, Sridevi and other Bollywood stars of the 70s and 80s, Merlyn started mimicking their moves and perfected their dance sequences from their films. Dancing became a part of Merlyn?s daily life. The popularity of Merlyn?s performances spread and she was in demand to perform at local South Asian events. Still with no formal training, Merlyn began teaching and choreographing not only for herself, but for members in her community as well. Merlyn Began teaching herself all forms of dance; Bollywood Style (Filmi and a variety of Indian Classical dance forms such as Bharata Natyam and Tandav), Post Modern, Bhangra, Hip-hop, Belly Dancing, Salsa and Jazz. Ultimately diversity in learning a surplus of dance forms had given Merlyn a multifaceted style of Bollywood Dancing. Through her active involvement in charity shows, dance contests and festivals, Merlyn was acknowledged by the India based dance show Boogie Woogie. She was offered a judge position for the Vancouver auditions with the finals held in Toronto.

Maggots are Turf over Surf animal feed alternative

STELLENBOSCH, South Africa (Reuters) - Families tucking into a Sunday dinner of roast chicken or pork may not relish the idea of animals fattened on maggots.

But one British entrepreneur in South Africa believes that maggots, the wriggling larvae of the common house fly (Musca Domestica), is a viable protein-rich alternative to make animal feed. A large part of the feed used today is fishmeal and depends on diminishing global fish stocks.

David Drew, managing director of AgriProtein Technologies, plans to set up in South Africa the world's first large-scale fully commercial factory producing "Magmeal", an organic and sustainable replacement for the fishmeal currently used to fatten up chickens and pigs.

"By 2050, at the current rates that we are using fishmeal, we will need two more planets' oceans to feed ourselves. The world's population is also expanding exponentially, with India and China helping drive poultry, beef and pork consumption," Drew told Reuters.

His existing test fly farm operates simply - flocks of flies contained in special containers lay eggs which turn into larvae after three days. Millions of teeming maggots are immersed in abattoir blood and feed on it to fatten up.

They are later washed and harvested when fully grown at around 12 mm, before being dried, milled and pelleted for animal feed.

"What's been helping us is the price of fishmeal is rising, it is a scarce resource. This is not some environmental tree-hugging nonsense, this is exactly as it is," Drew said at the Mariendahl experimental farm, about 45 km (27 miles) north of Cape Town where the maggot test factory is located.

He added AgriProtein wanted the fully commercialised maggot factory to be on line at the end of next year. The plant would consume 65,000 litres of blood a day, feeding 100 tonnes of maggots and producing 20 tonnes of "Magmeal".

International partners were being sought for the $8 million maggot factory, with a similar manufacturing facility planned for Germany afterwards, Drew said.

"We've done the proof of concept with the protein source where we've tested toxicity, meat quality... we actually have an (animal feed) product which is better than what we currently have," said Elsje Pieterse, an animal scientist at the University of Stellenbosch and one of the project's pioneers.

"Our fish sources are not renewable ... But this is much cheaper than fishmeal in the end, it is better protein source because it is healthier with no anti-nutrients," Pieterse said.

She added the product was totally renewable and natural, as maggots were known as nature's sweepers, able to vacuum up bacteria. Maggots have been used in some medical procedures to clean up infected or dead tissue from wounds.

AgriProtein Technologies was also conducting research for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in using the wasp-like Black Soldier fly to clean up pit latrines in African slums.

The experiment is seen having multiple benefits: Black Soldier flies lay their eggs on human excrement, and their larvae feed off this, leaving an odourless residue that can be used for fertiliser. The larvae can also be commercialised as protein, in the same way as house fly maggots.

"The idea being that the small entrepreneur can make a third of his money off the municipality by cleaning up the shit in the slum, a third of his money from larvae and a third of his money from fertiliser," said Drew.
