WASHINGTON (AP) - Johan Santana said he agreed with New York Mets manager Terry Collins' decision to give him two extra days rest after last Friday's no-hitter.
Santana worked in the bullpen Tuesday before the Mets' game with the Washington Nationals and said he felt strong. He's scheduled to face the Yankees on Friday.
The left-hander, who threw the first no-hitter in team history against St. Louis, is less than two years removed from shoulder surgery.
Santana said that extra rest was good, and he told Collins he was fine, and would tell him in something was wrong.
"I'll be ready for Friday," Santana said.
Collins said he spoke with Santana on Monday, and he said he'd pitch whenever the manager wanted him to.
