Guide Dogs of Texas receives large donation

Guide Dogs of Texas has received $625,000 from the estate of a longtime donor, the largest private donation ever bequested to the organization.

In her will, the donor, who began making her gifts 10 years ago, asked to remain anonymous.

?Guide Dogs of Texas is truly grateful for this extraordinary gift,? said Larry Tuttle, GDTX president. ?We receive no state or federal funding and must rely on donations to remain in operation. These reserves allow us to develop sustaining revenues, serve an increasing number of clients and make improvements to our training center.?

GDTX, the only guide dog school in Texas, provides dogs to the visually impaired and is one of 11 accredited schools in the nation.

After being paired with a guide dog, clients come to San Antonio for three weeks of one-on-one training with an instructor before leaving with their service dog.
