Tastecard Restaurant review ? Bar Estilo, Richmond | She Went Away

*Note: This was originally posted as a review of La Tasca in Richmond, however on a recent visit to Richmond I realized that there is no La Tasca. The name of the restaurant is Bar Estilo instead. See corrections to this post below.*

Having just returned from Spain and experiencing the ?real deal? in Tapas, I thought now a good time to post a review of La Tasca Bar Estilo, a chain of restaurants in the UK specializing in tapas. According to the Bar Estilo website:

Whatever the occasion, a shopping stop for a jug of Sangria and a few tapas, dinner out with family and friends or a great value lunch; Estilo has something to suit them all.

Our menu offers a wide selection of tapas, light mains, burgers, grills and specialities including paellas & pasta dishes

Bar Estilo has an extensive list of mini dishes to share with those at your table. The dishes are tasty and varied. Unlike my experience in Spain, they are more expensive and none came on bread. That, in itself, is not a bad thing.

The Bar Estilo in Richmond was quite accommodating, as we arrived with eight people and one Tastecard in hand. They gave us a table right in the middle of the restaurant (unlike some places that tuck Tastecarders away in drab corners) and with the exception of a long wait for the bill, the service was reasonable.

I did not leave the restaurant feeling particularly stimulated by the food but in reflection now on my authentic Spanish tapas experience, I now see why Bar Estilo has offered the choices on their menu ? a spin on tradition.

I guess that what this makes clear is that expectations can get in the way of experiencing something good. If I had known more about tapas prior to eating at Bar Estilo, I most likely would have better appreciated my meal.
